Felting Workshops with Heidi Paul

Felt is a non-woven cloth made by tangling and condensing wool; it is incredibly versatile, insulating and sculptural. Learn the ancient technique of feltmaking, the design and blocking of hats. No previous experience is needed, all levels welcome.

Why fiber? “Fiber is approachable. I think textiles ask to be touched. We all have grown up with something soft or warm or compassionate that has made us feel safe and comfortable; textiles are an influential association.” Heidi believes the connection between the sense of touch and safety is one of the first and oldest experiences humans have.

The affinity Heidi has for protein fibers; alpaca, mohair, silk and wools, relates to their function and sculptural qualities. Heidi and fibers have a great relationship; they work well together. The finished pieces are a harmony of intention and skill. Heidi Paul's Website
