The Cocktail & Evening Hat

"All good hats are made out of nothing" Oscar Wilde

This two session workshop will build on your design experience. During the morning of the first session we will determine and block your desired cocktail or fascinator shapes in felt, straw or other materials and set them to dry. In the afternoon we will turn our attention to discussion and creation of the trims and embellishments to be used to complete the hats.

During Session Two we will remove the hats from the blocks and finish the raw edges appropriate to your design ideas, stitch in the headsize ribbons and trims to finish the hats.  The workshop goal is to complete a minimum of two hats from start to finish. Wayne encourages additional hats if time and skill warrant. Most work will be done by hand with some light use of sewing machines. You decide how fast you work and how much you do. Wayne always does his best to ensure everyone leaves with professional looking hats they will enjoy wearing.

Prerequisite: Students need to have attended a Felt & Straw Blocking Workshop and be familiar with blocking skills.

Materials for 2 hats (1 felt and 1straw) plus all necessary wire, findings, headsize ribbon are included in the workshop fee. Additional felt and straw bodies and millinery trimmings may be purchased during the workshop.

Dates to be determined. Please check back.
